• Sir Charles Arundell, of the City of London, 2 son, named after Charles Emperor of Germany by Philip II of Spain, his godfather. This King knighted him, and when he fled from England allowed him "0 crowns monthly for his maintenance. Named in will of his aunt Jane Arundell, 1577. Died in Paris 9 Dec. 1587. s.p., his brother Sir Matthew his heir. Inq. p.m. 30 Eliz., Pt. 1, No 89. The Inq. names his father and mother and two sisters, Dorothy and Jane.

Godson of Philp II of Spain (who of course was also KIng of England during Mary's reign), who named him after Emperor Charles of Germany. Was also knighted by Philip II, who paid him 80 crowns annually for maintenance after he fled from England during Elizabeth I's reign.
