Sir Francis Hamilton of Castle Hamilton, 3rd Baronet

Biographical Summary

"Sir Francis Hamilton, Baronet [S 1628] of Castle Hamilton, son and heir by 1st wife; succeeded to the Baronetcy in or before 1689, in which year he was attainted by the Parliament of James II; was M.P. [I] for co Cavan, 1692-93, 1695-99, and 1703-13; Sheriff of co Donegal 1694. He married firstly, about 1685, Catherine, 1st daughter of Hugh (Montgomery), 1st Earl of Mount Alexander [I], by his 2nd wife, Catherine, daughter of Arthur (Jones), 2nd Viscount Ranelagh [I]. She died 6 January 1692, aged 29. He married secondly, 26 March 1695, Anne, daughter and heir of Claud Hamilton, by Anne, daughter of William Hamilton, of Hamilton's Bawn, co Cavan. He died s.p.s. 4, and was buried 9 February 1713/4, at Killesharndra, when the Baronetcy became dormant. His widow married (as the 2nd or 3rd of his many wives) Lord Archibald Hamilton (younger brother of James, Duke of Hamilton [S]), who died 5 December 1753, aged 80. She died (shortly after her marriage) 29 March, and was buried 4 April 1719 in Westminster Abbey."
