About Sir Hugo De Mesnil or Menil
In Cromforde,there were, at the time that the Domesday Book was compiled there were two carucates of land to be taxed, and it then belonged to the king.
In 1350 Sir Hugh Meynell of Meynell Langley had a grant of free warren in his lands at Cromford, which he held under the Duke of Lancaster. These land which are supposed to have constituted what is now the manor of Cromford, were after in the family of Leche.
