Sir Humphrey Forster, 1st Baronet of Aldermaston

Humphrey III's son, William II, fathered a son – Humphrey IV – in 1595. He and his wife Anne began building a mansion house, known as Aldermaston House, in 1618 by laying a new cornerstone. The house was completed in 1636,and was dedicated with a short verse:

We live and build with one mind and dedicated both our lives and this house to God and to fortune. In the year of our Lord 1636

Just to be quite clear... and I put this in a comment on the document which is, I hope, visible. I am treating this as a basis for research rather than authoritative. It has errors in the offspring of William Forster b 1624. I believe Humphry through Edward are correct and John through Sophia are actually the offspring of Humphry b 1595, except for Francis bapt 1600. There are two errors with Francis: (1) shown as daughter but Francis is male name (I should know) and (2) ancestry baptism records show Frannces bapt 1600 as male. Cannot be child of either William or Humphrey. There are other possible inconsistencies: for example, is Margaret bapt 1628 the same as Margaret bapt 1622 found on ancestry, or were there two ? Another error is with Henry Forster b 1803 m Caroline Courtier. Another family document (pedigree of Thomas Courtier b 1656tbc) shows Henry marrying not Caroline, but her sister Charlotte and this is confirmed by inspection of the 1841 census return: Name: Henry Forster Age: 35 Gender: Male Civil Parish: Westwood With Iford Hundred: Elstub and Everley County/Island: Wiltshire Country: England Registration district: Bradford Sub-registration district: South Eastern Piece: 1176 Book: 12 Folio: 9 Page Number: 13 Henry Forster 35 Charlotte Forster 23 Caroline Forster 11 Mo

Not sure how much this helps. I have not yet found an old genealogy that is error-free, even if beautifully printed on cloth, or bound in a volume by Hunter.
