On 29 November 1513 he was a minor at the time of his father's death, but was by virtue of the Act of Dispensation granted to the heirs of those slain at Flodden, deemed of lawful age, and retoured heir.1

December 14, 1518 – Sir James HALDANE, 6th Laird of Gleneagles and Lady Margaret ERSKINE were married in Perthshire, Scotland. Both the bride and the groom had lost their fathers on 9 Sep 1513 at the Battle of Flodden during the invasion of Northumberland under King James IV. Lady Margaret was the daughter of the slain 4th Lord Erskine, Sir Robert and his wife Elizabeth Campbell. (Ky White)
