About Sir John Beaumont, 1st Bt.

Biographical Summary

"John Beaumont, of Gracedieu [in Belton], co Leicester, Esq., 2nd son but eventually heir male of Francis Beaumont, of Gracedieu Priory, sometime (1592-98) one of the Justices of the Court of Common Pleas, by Anne, relict of Thomas Thorold, daughter of Sr George Pierrepont, of Holme Pierrepont, Notts, was born about 1582; matriculated at Oxford (Broadgates Hall), 4 February 1596/7, aged 14; admitted to Inner Temple, 1598, and succeeded to the family estates on the death of his elder brother, Sir Henbry Beaumont, s.p.m., 13 July 1605, and was created a Baronet, 31 January 1627/8. He was a poet of some merit. He married Elizabeth, daughter of John Fortescue. He was buried 19 April 1627, in Westminster Abbey. His widow living 16 April 1652."
