Sir John Hele/Hole

There is no record of a John Hole, or any name close to that, being knighted at any plausible time. (A few people were still slipping through the cracks in the records.) [although a Sir Nicholas Hole, Knight, was John Hole's grandfather, see: Sir Nicholas Hele]

A. D. 775 to 1803

I. — EGBERT, history tells us, was the first King cf England; that he was born about 775, and in Soo ascended the throne of Wessex, one of the seven kingdoms forming the Heptarchy by which Bri- tain was then governed; that in 827 he had subdued all the other rulers and became sole monarch of England. He died about 838, and was succeeded by his son.

II. — Ethelwulf, who ruled until 857, when dying was succeeded by his four sons in succession. The three elder ones each ruled but a short time, the youngest of them dying in 871 from the effects of a wound received in battle with the Danes. Upon his death the fourth son,

Earl of Buchau, and had XIV. — AGNES, who married Gilbert, Baron de Urnfraville. She had XV. — Gilbert, who succeeded his father as Baron de Urnfraville, and

became governor of the Castle of Forfar. He married Matilda,

Countess, of Angus, and died in 1308; had XVI. — Robert, born 129D, second Earl of Angus, who married Lady

Eleanor, by whom he had XVII. — Thomas, born 1329, Sir Thomas de Urnfraville, of Harbottie,

who married Joane, daughter of Adam de Rohan and had XVIII. —Thomas, Sir Thomas de Urnfraville, Lord of Riddesdale,

born 1370, who married Lady Agnes, had XIX. — Margaret, (1407) married Hugh Hole (1403). XX. — WM. Hole, of South Hole, born 1436, married Joan Cole. XXI. — Nicholas Hole, born 1477, married Margery Doun (of the
