I. — EGBERT, history tells us, was the first King cf England; that he was born about 775, and in Soo ascended the throne of Wessex, one of the seven kingdoms forming the Heptarchy by which Bri- tain was then governed; that in 827 he had subdued all the other rulers and became sole monarch of England. He died about 838, and was succeeded by his son.

became governor of the Castle of Forfar. He married Matilda,

Countess, of Angus, and died in 1308; had XVI. — Robert, born 129D, second Earl of Angus, who married Lady

Eleanor, by whom he had XVII. — Thomas, born 1329, Sir Thomas de Urnfraville, of Harbottie,

who married Joane, daughter of Adam de Rohan and had XVIII. —Thomas, Sir Thomas de Urnfraville, Lord of Riddesdale,
