=========================

Ramsbury, Wiltshire tax lists record Thomas Myldenhall in 1525 and Thomas Mildenhall in 1545. We believe then that this confirms Thomas Myldenhall bc1460 being the son of Walter and Thomas being the father of Thomas Mildenhall II bc 1500-10. During the latter's lifetime, Henry VIII took the valuable Manor of Ramsbury including Marridge Hill with its monastery winery from the Diocese of Salisbury. Henry gave his friend and brother-in-law William Herbert , Earl of Pembroke the Manor of Ramsbury plus the Monastery with property of Wilton down by Great Bedwyn. The Marridge Hill Monastery was the grand house of the Ramsbury area but it was old even then according to archeologists. So Pembroke tore down Wilton and rebuilt it as the permanent home of the Pembrokes to this day. Marridge Hill Monastery was in ruins by the 1800's and no longer exists. The best days of the Manor of Ramsbury were in the 1500's and it was in the 1560's that Sir John Mildenhall of Marridge Hill was recorded in the papers of William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke as being supervisor on Marridge Hill. Thomas Mildenhall Ii would then be his father because he was there too.
