About Sir John Oglivy of Inverquharity, 5th Baronet
Biographical Summary
"Sir John Oglivy, Baronet [S 1626] of Inverquharity, son and heir, by 1st wife, born about 1732, succeeded to the Baronetcy in February 1748. In 1781 he was served heir general of his father and of his paternal great great grandfather. and in 1798 heir of his maternal uncles, Charles and Robert Mercer, in Lethendy, co Perth, and other lands. About 1790 he sold the estates of Inverquharity. He married, 1754, Charlotte, 1st daughter and coheir of Walter Tulliedeph of Tulliedeph (formerly Bank), in Strathmartine, co Forfar, sometime a physician in the island of Antigua. She (by whom he had nine sons) inherited this estate, and died there aged 70, being buried at Strathmartine. He died 15 March 1802, and was buried in St Cuthbert's churchyard, Edinburgh."
