Sir John Wingfield was the son of Thomas Wingfield and Margaret Boville born at Letheringham, Suffolk, England circa 1335. He married Margaret Hastings, daughter of Sir Hugh Hastings of Elsing, Norfolk and his wife Margaret Everingham. Sir John Wingfield died in 1389 and his is one of two monumental brasses that survive today at Letheringham church. Margaret Hastings died in 1396. Children of Sir John Wingfield were John Wingfield who died childless, and Robert Wingfield who married Elizabeth Russell.
