   Sir Ralph5 GERNON (Sir William4, Ralph3, Ralph2, Matthew1) was born 1229 in Bakewell, Derby, ENG, and died 1274. He married Eleanor de VERE, daughter of Robert and Isabel de BOLBEC.

   Notes Supplement to Ancestral Roots of Sixty Colonists, Frederick Lewis Weis

   d. 1274 (Inq.p.m. 2 Ed. I), Lord of the manors of East Thorpe and Great Birch, Co. Cambridge, held the Hundred of Lexton, Co. Essex, fortified his castle of Birch, son of Sir William Gernon (d. 1259; Inq.p.m. 43 Henry III), Marshal of the King's Household, and his wife, Beatrix, dau. of Henry de Theydon, and a descendant of Ralph Gernon who held three Knights' fees in East Thorpe and Great Birch, 1211. (CP X 213 note b; Morant, Essex, II 159, 179-182).

   Note: Ancestral Roots states that Ralph married, 2ndly, Hawise de Tregoz. However Dave Utzinger, with supplemental information, states that Ralph's son William married Hawise de Tregoz.
