On July 13th, 1464, the Abbot of Jedburgh granted a right of burial in Jedburgh Abbey to Robert Rutherford of Chatto and his wife Margaret, son of Sir George Rutherfurd of Chatto and his wife Jonet Rutherfurd of Edgerston. The whole of the choir was afterwards divided among the Rutherfurds as their resting place, and allotments assigned for those of Edgerston, Hunthill, Hundalee, Fairnington, Bankend, the Hall, the Townhead, to the Lorimer and to the Bailie and his son.
Robert Rutherfoord of Chatto is the son of John [George] Rutherfoord of Chatto.1 He married Margaret Glendonwyn, daughter of Sir Simon Glendonwyn and Lady Elizabeth Lindsay.1
He was also known as Robert Rutherfurid of Chatto.2 He was living in 1500. Children of Robert Rutherfoord of Chatto and Margaret Glendonwyn:

Robert Rutherfoord, of Chatto, who got a charter under the Great Seal to him and Margaret his wife, mediae partis villas de Scaresburgh, dated 18th January 1466. He lived after the year 1500, and by the said Margaret left issue a son.

Robert of Chattow, by his marriage with the daughter of Sir Simon Glendonwyn of that ilk, largely increased his estate, her dowry being the Barony of Scraisburgh. Sir Simon at that time had immense properties, and got this barony (which once belonged to the Comyns) and Auld Rokesburg, &c, in the shire of Roxburgh, from the Earl of Douglas in 1406.

Robert Rutherfurd of Chatto had a charter from Archibald, fifth Earl of Douglas, confirming to him as his dear esquire, the gift of his late father, Archibald, Earl of Douglas, to George of Rutherfurd, Robert's father, of the lands of Nether Chatto and others on 21 November 1429, which was confirmed by the Crown 25 March 1439. He had a charter under the Great Seal on 18 January 1466-67, confirming a charter by Sir Simon of Glendinwine of that Ilk, to him and Margaret his wife of certain lands in the west part of the town of Scraisburgh, commonly called Hunthill, dated 12 December 1465, in which he was seised same day. He had a grant of lairs in the Abbey of Jedburgh from the then Abbot, to him and Margaret his wife, on 13 July 1464. He, with his son George, had a tack from the Grown of the lands of Midsteid of Wiudedurris in Ettrick for three years from 1484. He married Margaret, daughter of Sir Simon Glendinwyn of that Ilk.
