This family can be traced back to Sir Gilbert de Lytton, son of Mary de Lytton. Gilbert was named in a deed signed in 1283.
Sir Robert de Lytton of Lytton in the county of Derby, comptroller of the household to King Henry IV, receiver-general of the Queen's rents in her honour of High Peak, and agister of that Forest was survived by his son Robert (by his wife, Agnes, daughter of John Hotoft, Sheriff of London).
