Pedigree -A"—-CREWE OF CREWE.

1. Thomas de Crewe, Knight, probably born, as will appear here after, about 1225, and most probably the son of Thomas de Crue his wife named Margery or Alice, married Margaret, daughter of Sir William de Malpas, knight. Husband and wife are thus described and named in an action brought in 12-13 Edward I (1308-70) by their great-great-granddaughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Robert de Foulchurst.
The pleadings in this action state that Sir le Malpus gave to his said son-in-law, Sir 'Thomas, land in Whitepulle in the time of Edward 1 (1272-1307). Good evidence for the existence of five of Sir Thomas Crues children is given in the inquisition concerning alienations made without licence by (evidently) his son
“Thomas de Crue, Lord of Crue."
This inquisition was taken in 11 Edward Ill (1367-8), about seventy-four years after the death of
Thomas the son, and the following is an abstract.

-Crue-Thomas de Crue lord of Crue alienated without licence to David his brother one message and 50 acres of land with appurtenances in Crue for the rent of one pair of white gloves to the said Thomas and his heirs for all services [to hold] from the Lord Earl of Chester by

knight service us parcel of the manor of Crue.

Crue.-The same Thomas alienated to m'g’ie (Margery) his sister one message and 10 acres of land with appurtenances for the said rent as above.

Aston.-
-The same Thomas alienated to Nicholas his brother one messuage, 30 acres of land in Aston, etc., etc.
