"Sir William Baird, Baronet [S. 1695], of Saughton Hall, br. of the whole blood and h. ; suc. to the Baronetcy 1 July 1745 ; was a Captain in the Royal Navy. He m., in 1750, Frances, 1st da. of the celebrated Colonel James Gardiner, of Bankton (who was slain at the battle of Prestonpans, 21 Sep. 1745) by Frances, da. of David (Erskine), Earl or Buchan [S.]. He d. at Saughton Hall, 17 Aug. 1771."
