"Sir William Dunbar, Baronet [S. 1694], of the Grange, in Bladenoch, co. Wigtown, afterwards (though not in the parish of Mochrum) called Mochrum park, nephew and h., being 1st s. of James Dunbar, an officer in the 21st Light Dragoons, by Anna Catharina, da. of William Ferdinand, Baron de Keede d'Oudtshoorn, in Holland, which James (who d. 31 Jan. 1840, aged 62) was next br. of the late Baronet. He was b. 2 March 1812 ; ed. at the Univ. of Edinburgh ; admitted Advocate, 1835 : suc. to the Baronetcy, 22 June 1841; M.P. for Wigtown burghs (two Paris.), 1857-65 ; a Lord of the Treasury and Keeper of the Privy Seal to the Prince of Wales, 1859-65 ; Keeper of the Great Seal in Scotland and one of the Council of the Duchy of Cornwall to that Prince, 1863-65 ; sometime Comptroller and afterwards, 1867-88, Auditor Gen. of the Exchequer. He m. 7 Jan. 1842, Catherine Hay, 1st da. of James Paterson, of Carpow, co. Perth, by Jane, da. of John Balfour Hat, of Leys and Randerston. He d. 18 Dec. 1889, at Mochrum park, aged 76, and was our. at All Saints, Challock, co. Wigtown. His widow d. there 2 April 1890, aged 82."
