About Sir William Livingston of Kilsyth, Kt.
Biographical Summary
"Sir William Livingston of Kilsyth - Only son of Sir William Livingston of Kilsyth, by Christina, daughter of John, fourth Earl of Menteith, accompanied the Duke of Lennox on an embassage of amity to France in 1601. He was afterwards knighted and admitted an Ordinary Lord on the 6th June 1609, in the room of Lord Balmerino, then dismissed. He was in that year also appointed one of the parliamentary commissioners named, to adopt measures preventing and punishing the crime of rape, then fearfully common. He was sworn a privy councillor on the 15th May 1613, and was the same day appointed vice-chamberlain of Scotland. In 1621, he was appointed one of the commissioners for the plantation of kirks. He died in the autumn of vacance of 1637."
