Biographical Summary
"Sir William Maxwell, Baronet [S. 1681], of Monreith, 1st s. and h., b. there 2 Oct. 1804; was sometime Capt. 14th Light Dragoons, but retired in 1844 ; sue. to the Baronetcy, 22 Aug. 1838 ; Lieut.-Col. Galloway Rifles Militia, 1854-59. He m. 10 June 1833, Helenora, 3d and yst da. of Sir Michael Shaw-Stewart, 5th Baronet [S. 1667], by Catherine, da. of Sir William Maxwell, 3d Baronet [S. 1683], of Springkell. She d. 27 Oct. 1876, at Bournemouth. He d. there 29 March 1877, aged 71."
