At this time (1908) Thelly’s [D:Thelma Vicaji] father was travelling around the world making a fortune and losing it. When he came to Bombay he stayed at the Taj, where he was called “Prince Vicaji” for his lavish taste. Prince or not, the Vicajis had princely connections.
Neither “Prince Vicaji” nor his estranged wife Muriel seemed to care much for their beautiful daughters and it was left to Uncle Jack to bring them up
