About Solomon W Pickering
The son of John & Sally Denny Pickering, he married Mary Ann Traviss in 1844 and they had twelve children together: Ira (b-1845 also buried at Manzer Cemetery); Nelson (b-1847 also buried at Manzer Cemetery); Edwin D. (b-1849 also buried at Manzer Cemetery); Amos (b-1850); Cornelius (b-1851 also buried at Manzer Cemetery); Cornelia P. (b-1853 m-Pickering); Julia Ann (b-1855 m-Conrad); Emily Jane (b-1857); twins Ellen (b-1859) and Helen (b-1859 m-Westgate); Carrie Arminda (b-1864 m-Decker); and James F. (b-1866).
The Pickering family was established in Gibson in 1796 by Solomon's grandfather, Jotham Pickering (b-1761), who was a Revolutionary War Veteran. He relocated his family to the Susquehanna wilderness after moving from Mendon, MA in 1795. The Pickerings were farmers and sawmill owners in Gibson and Nicholson Township.
