Obit from Dixon Evening Telegraph Sophia Mall ASHTON - Mrs. Sophia Mall, 98, formerly of Ashton, died Friday in Valley High Nursing Home, Woodstock. She was a registered nurse, formerly working in Ashton and Rochelle areas and was a 1905 graduate of Rockford Memorial School of Nursing. She was born Dec. 7, 1878 in Van Horn, Iowa, the daughter of George and Eliza (Aschenbrenner) Hotzel. She was married to Joseph Strayde Aug. 17, 1916, who died in 1926. She then was married to Samuel Mall Jan. 24, 1954, who died in 1957. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Mall was a member of the Ashton United Methodist Church and the Royal Neighbors. Surviving is her stepson, Kenneth J. Mall of Dixon. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Ashton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Clyde F. Galow, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Ashton Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today in Gus-Simes Funeral Home, Ashton.
