DEATH SUMMONS ESTEEMED FORMER AKRON RESIDENT

Rites Are, Held Here Last Thursday For Mrs. J. M. Baldwin

Brief mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Mrs. J. M, Baldwin, a well-known resident of Akron vicinity for many years, on Monday, December 19,1955, in a nursing home in Sioux City, at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 27 days.

Sophronia Adell Wright, daughter of Alphus and Adelia Wright, was born December 22, 1865, near Amber, Jones county, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Joseph Martin Baldwin in 1883, and one daughter and six sons were born to this union. Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin began married life by farming in Jones.county, Iowa, and then moved to a farm near Huron, S. D., but, after a; brief, difficult farming experience there, returned to Iowa and farmed near Washta for two years. They then located in Plymouth county and farmed in the Adaville area until moving to Akron in 1917. At that time Mrs. Baldwin transferred her church membership from the Adaville United Brethren to Wesley Methodist church in Akron, where she fulfilled her obligations of membership with greatest faithfulness.

Mrs. Baldwin was preceded in death by her husband in 1940, and two sons, LeRoy Franklin in 1920, and Charles Alpheus in 1934.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Allurta Mae Waddle, of Waubay, S. D., and four sons, Oscar James, of Akron; Walter Martin, of Sioux City; Lloyd DeWitt, of Merrill, la., and Clarence Elswdrth, of South Sioux City, Nebr.; also, by 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held here last Thursday at 2:00 p. m. in Wesley Methodist church, Rev. Chester L. Guin, officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were six grandchildren: Lyle Baldwin, Marvin Baldwin, Ardith Baldwin, Lowell Baldwin, Clifford Baldwin and Joe, Bremer. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
