About Spr. Charles Walter Potts
Charles Potts born at Carterton in New Zealand's North Island, on 29 November 1879 (reg. 1880/1267). He was the son of Charles Potts and Emily Sophia Potts (nee Gearing), who had married at St Matthews Church in Brixton, Surrey, England on 25 June 1868 and emigrated to New Zealand on board the 'Waikato' on 11 July 1874. Charles joined the New Zealand Engineers, 2 Field Company during World War I. He was killed in action at Montauban-de-Picardie, Somme, Northern France on 17 September 1916 and buried in the Warlencourt British Cemetery (VIII. J. 50.) (bio by Debbie McCauley, 28 June 2022).
