Stanley J. “Stan” Tyburec, 68, of Winner, SD, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 3, 2014, in Gregory Hospice following a courageous struggle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 2:00pm, at Mason’s Funeral Home in Winner, SD. Burial with military honors will follow at the Winner Cemetery Stan was born on April 5, 1945 in Winner, SD, to Lumir and LaVerne (Anderson) Tyburec. He attended school in Winner and graduated from Winner High School in 1963. After graduation, he worked in an Auto Body shop, which led to a life-time interest in restoring old cars and pickups. In August, 1965, Stan enlisted in the United States Army. He took his basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, and took his advanced training in Ft. Sill, OK. He served in Vietnam from March, 1966 to March, 1967. He was in the Artillery and was assigned to a Hawk Missile Battery in defense of Tan Son Nhut Air Base as a Field Radio Operator. After Vietnam, Stan was assigned to duty in a unit in Germany for a year. He was honorably discharged in August, 1968. Stan’s love of music was with him all of his life. He bought his first guitar when he was 14. Following his lead, some of his brothers joined him, playing guitar or drums. While in Vietnam, he and several buddies formed a band. After he returned home, he attended Norfolk Jr. College in Norfolk, NE. for a couple of years and played with a band based out of Crofton, NE. Stan was stationed in Redfield, SD, for several years while working for the Bureau of Reclamation on the Oahe Irrigation Project. He returned to Winner, SD and worked in the Auto body business. Stan then worked for the City of Winner in the Cemetery and Parks departments up until his retirement. He took great pride in his work and served his town well. Stan will be deeply missed by his sisters, Elaine (Larry) Larsen, Chamberlain, SD, Julie (Denny) Masteller, Rozet, WY, Marilyn (Denny) Klein, Burke, SD, Marie Tyburec, Burke, SD; his brothers, Jerry (Joy) Tyburec, Winner, SD, Joe (Rae) Tyburec, Gregory, SD, Dave (Melodee) Tyburec, Toronto, SD; sister-in-law, Donna Tyburec, Winner, SD.; nieces, Lori, Leslie, Janette, and Debra; nephews, Jon, Terry, Jesse, Jarrel, John, Ross, Sam and Adam; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Lumir and LaVerne Tyburec, infant brothers, John and Emil; infant sister, Laurie; brothers, Ray and Frankie; nephew, Grant; nieces, Susan and Brandy.
