"S.F. Sowell enlisted into the Lancaster Invincibles, Co. H, 2nd SC Infantry on April 28, 1861 by Capt. Amos McManus in Lancaster, SC. He stated he was 17 years of age. He was later discharged on Feb. 28, 1862 for being under age. Stated he was born in Kershaw, SC and was 16 years of age, 5' 8" tall, dark complexion, black eyes, black hair and was a farmer."
