MRS. S. M. JACK DIES AFTER A LONG ILLNESS---was a Life Long Resident of Indiana--Was Held in High Esteem By All.
SERVICES FRIDAY---Death closed the career of another lifelong and esteemed resident of Indiana early this morning when Mrs. Margaret F. Mitchell Jack, aged 67 years, wife of Hon. Summers M. Jack, passed away at her home on Philadelphia street, about four o'clock. The end came after a critical illness of several months, during which everything known to medical science was done to restore her health.
While Mr. and Mrs. Jack were in route to Florida about two years ago, Mrs. Jack fell through a swinging door in a Pullman car and sustained an injury to her hip. It was thought at the time that the hip was fractured, but an X-ray examination revealed a bruise which developed complications that were directly responsible for her death.
Mrs. Jack was a daughter of the late W. J. and Sarah E. (Adair) Mitchell, and was born in Indiana on April 26, 1859. She graduated from Indiana State Normal school in the class of 1878 and later attended Vassar College. She was united in marriage to Summers M. Jack on November 11, 1881. She was the mother of three children. A daughter, Sara, died at the age of four years. Two sons, William J. Jack, and Attorney Jameas L. Jack, both reside in Indiana. A sister, Mrs. James R. Daughty, of Indiana, is the only surviving member of the Mitchell family. Mrs. Jack has been prominently identified with the social and educational life of Indiana for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian church, anda charter member of the Shakespeare Club of Indiana. Mr. Jack has served as a member of the board of Trustees of Indiana Normal School for many years and Mrs Jack was vitally interested in the growth and development of the institution.
Funeral services will be held at the Jack home on Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by her pastor, Dr. J. C. Pinkerton, of the First United Presbyterian church. Interment will follow in Oakland cemetery. [SOURCE: INDIANA EVENING GAZETTE (Indiana, Indiana County, PA) Wednesday, August 18, 1926]
