Surg. Emery Ashael Merrifield

Emery Merrifield attended Albany Medical College in the 1850's. He served in the Union Army during the American Civil War as a Surgeon. He was first commissioned 1st Assistant Surgeon of the 58th Illinois Infantry Regiment. He entered service on 1 Oct 1861 in Chicago, IL and mustered in on 25 Jan 1862 in Chicago IL. On 1 May 1863 in Murfeesboro, TN he was commissioned as Surgeon of the 31st Illinois Infantry Regiment, but his commission was cancelled and instead he was assigned to the 44th Illinois Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on 25 Sep 1865 in Camp Irwin, TX.
