Susan Farmer

Susan was born on 17th March 1835 and was the daughter of James & Susan Pearce .

On the 1841 census she is aged five and lives with her parents and two sisters in Shoreditch.Her Christening was held at St.Leonards,Shoreditch,London,England on 15th April 1844

.Also christened with her were her two sisters Caroline born 26.12.1836 and Emma born 13.3.1844 . Her mother also Susan went on to have more children, with James Pearce her husband and when James died she went on the marry William Wedge, who was 10 years younger than herself. In 1851 Susan was aged 17 and was a servant girl in Shoreditch. Susan married Richard Farmer occupation Hairdresser on 29th June 1857 at St.James Church in the Parish of Shoreditch in the County of Middlesex. Her age at the time was 22.Her residence at this time was 7,Hardings Buildings.

In the 1861 Census Susan is residing at 167,Brick Lane,London she is aged 25 Richard is aged 30 and they live with Daughter Sarah aged 3 and Daughter Emma aged 1. .

Susan and Richard were witnesses to Richard's brother Russell's wedding in 1865,

In the 1871 census taken April 1871 Susan is now the head of the family , and a widow,working as a dressmaker and living at home 49,Gowers Walk with Emma aged 12 ,Richard aged 9 and Elizabeth aged 2.

Elizabeth's father's Surname is Stubbings who is a Fish Porter address given on Elizabeth's birth certificate is 8.Short Street,Shoreditch.

In the British Census 1881 it states that Susan Farmer was living at 49,Gowers Walk,London,Middlesex.England with her children.Her occupation is General Dealer,she was the head of the family and a widow.

In the British Census of 1891 Susan is aged 56 Head of the family and a Laundress,also living with her is Sarah aged 30 and Charlotte aged 18 occupation Tobacco Worker,also only son Richard aged 20 and a Dock Labourer.They all reside at Number 51,Gowers Walk.

In the 1901 British Census Susan is aged 65 and daughter Sarah aged 45 whose occupation is Glass Packer.Harry her Grandson is aged 20 occupation General Labourer, his mother is Susan's daughter Sarah Also younger Susan Farmer who is down as a daughter ,we now know her to be Sarah's daughter also she is aged 12. And Arthur Pelham aged 16 who is down as an adopted son, his occupation is Confectionery Shop Assistant.They reside at 32,Jamaica Street,Mile End Old Town.

In the census of England & Wales 1911 Susan is 76 years old.And living at 22,Bermuda Street, Stepney.London.

Susan died 3rd March 1913 aged 77 years ,her daughter Sarah was present and registered

her death. They lived at 22,Bermuda Street.
