Susan Marritt/Merritt was baptized at St. Stephen, Ipswich, England on June 9, 1626, daughter of Thomas and Susan (Wolfenden) Marrett, who came to New England and settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts by 1635/6. [1] [2] [3]
Susan married George Barstow by 1649 [1] [3] as their first child was baptized at Scituate in February, 1650. George 'Beeresto', aged 21, came to New England from Halifax, Yorkshire, England in 1635 with his brother William, aged 23, on the Truelove. [2] [4]
Her husband George died at Cambridge on March 18, 1652/3. [5][2]
George didn't sign his will, but Thomas Marrett signed it and Susan Barstow made her mark. In it he left his estate in 3 equal parts to his wife and two children. [6] [2]
Susan died at Cambridge on April 17, 1654. [5]
Her estate inventory was valued at L66 2s 5d, with debts of L5 16s. Her father Thomas Marrit was appointed administer and guardian to the children, Margaret about 4 years old and George about 2 years 2 months. [7] [2]
In her father Thomas' will, written October 15, 1663, he left bequests to the children of 'my son George Baisto deceased', among others. [8] [1] [3]
Michael Barstow, of Watertown, Massachusetts, wrote his will June 23, 1674, and left legacies to the children of his brothers John, William and George Barstow.
