OBITUARY: Burley South Idaho Press 08-28-2000
BURLEY - Our dearly beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Susanna Clayton Rich, joined her Heavenly Family on August 25, 2000 at 12:30 a.m.
We all loved her and she loved us all back. We feel and felt the privilege to have been blessed by her soul. Susanna passed away just two weeks before her 100th birthday, September 13, 1900.
She was born in Paris, Idaho, the daughter of William Nephi Clayton and Emma Charlotte Price.
Susanna graduated from BYU with a teachers degree. She taught many children in elementary school and wrote a paper on how to read, write, and do arithmetic. All who came in contact with Susanna loved, respected and revered her. Best of all, they learned what she taught them.
She married Simpson Euzene Rich on June 23, 1923 in Paris. They were blessed with four children. She was in business with her husband for 17 years in Ashton. A fire burned their business.
She went back to teaching school in Terryington and Salmon until her retirement when she moved to Burley to be with her children and grand children, until her demise.
Susanna was an accomplished pianist and taught many. Music was her life next to her children. She was very active in the LDS church. For years she played the organ and piano at the 10th and 21st ward in Burley, among many other events within the church.
She is survived by two of her children, Donna Marie Rich Ucci and Gerald Euzene Rich both of Burley; 14 grand children, 40 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter Ruth Susanna Rich Hemming; one son William Clayton Rich; one great-granddaughter, Aliza B. Brower and one great-grandson, William Scott Tarwater.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2000, at the Burley LDS 10th Ward Chapel on 16th Street with Bishop Jon Searle officiating.
Friends and family may call at Hansen Mortuary Burley Chapel, 321 East Main on Tuesday evening, August 29, 2000, between the hours of 6-8 p.m. and also between 10:00 and 10:45 a.m., prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Burial will follow at the Paris City Cemetery in Paris, Idaho at 4:00 p.m. the day of service.
We will miss you dearest mother. Until we meet again, we love you and will never forget you.
