Notes

Dr. Lois Green Carr, Men's Career Files, MSA SC 5094 Cornelius Cannady & wife Susan Cannady Archives X, p. 471 Provincial Court Sept. 22 1656

Whereas a difference between Cornelius Cannady + him wife Susan was referred to the hearing of Richard Preston and Mr. Michael Brooke to see if it could be reconciled, either to be united, or to find what might be done in a way of equity if they were minded to live asunder. Finding that they were willing to part, we find that they are agreed upon these terms: Susan shall have all the household stuff and what else she can justly claim she brought with her out of Va. Susan to be allowed so much tab. at the crop as shall pay for a cow, Cannady allowing her 1300 lbs. tob. & cask wch. is for several debts rectd. by him due to her and goods sold as by a note of particulars may appear. And to this agreement both parties have assented (viz) that Susana binds herself for the future not to demand any further allowance, maintenance or subsistence from Cornelius her husband, and Cornelius engages himself to perform the above. Singend June 21, 1656, and to be further confirmed June 28 of this inst.

Consented to & signed and delivered in the presence of Richard Preston & WM. Berrey Acknowledged in et. on the woman's part Sept. 22, 1656
