About Susannah Winkler
Not the same as Susannah Ross
According to Henry Winkler's pension application, Susannah was "from her best recollection" 78 years of age in 1838. This puts her birth year close to 1760.
She was married to Henry Winkler the last day of June or the 1st day of July in the year 1778 in Rowan County, North Carolina.
Why is she connected to James & Jean Ross as a daughter?
James did have a daughter named Susannah that he listed in his will... "my dear & loving wife Jean Ross and four children (viz) Joseph, Benjamin, Jean & Susannah". All of these children are thought to be by his 2nd wife, though, the widow Jean Shaw. They were married in Guilford County 31 Aug 1778. James was not yet living in Rowan County at this point. And Susannah is listed as the last of what are supposedly Jean's children, meaning she was born at least 4 years after their marriage in 1778.
So Susannah Winkler who was, according to her own words, born circa 1760, cannot be the daughter of James Ross & his 2nd wife Mrs. Jean Shaw.
