Spot just in front of where Catholic Church now stands, was noted as haunted spot. Said William Clapp, when young man, was passing from his home to grist mill at Centerville, when near that spot, he saw what he thought was man, but as he looked at it, it gradually faded out of sight, & nothing would convince him he had not seen apparition. Dr Sylvester Knight, it was said, observed same phenomenon.

Dec 2 1808, 1st mtg held at residence of William Anthony. It is not known whether mtg was held in his home or in some suitable bldg located on his property. Names of Sylvester Knight, John Greene, & Resolved Slack were proposed for 1st degree Masonry. Special mtg held Dec 9, at which time above-named were balloted for & were initiated into 1st degree Masonry. They were passed to degree of Fellow Craft Dec 23, at which time Bro Sylvester Knight was elected Sec. Jan 6 1809, voted regular mtgs be held Fri evenings on or bef full moon, which is still practice of Lodge. Feb 24 1809, mtg of Master Masons was held, at which time 1st 3 candidates, together w/14 others, raised to sublime degree in Masonry. Fees at this time were these: EA degree, $7; FC degree, $3; Masters degree, $7; mbrship, $7.
