TSgt. Harmen De Haan, POW WWII

Harmen appears in the 1910 census as 9-yr-old "Herman De Haw" living in York, Du Page County, IL with his parents, Nick and Catherine. He appears in the 1930 census as single 29-yr-old "Harman De Haan" living in Rantoul, Champaign County, IL. He appears in the 1940 census as married 39-yr-old "Harmon De Hawn" living in Coronado, San Diego County, CA.

Harmen enlisted in the Marine Corps and was serving as a TSgt. with MAG-21 on Wake Island on 8 Dec 1941 when the Japanese attacked. When the Marines surrendered on 23 Dec 1941, Harmon became a Prisoner of War and was shipped to the Osaka POW camp where he died about three years later.
