"Benjamin Ernest Mitchell, PhD, was emeritus professor of mathematics, having re tired from the Millsap College faculty, Jackson, Mississippi in 1950 after 36 ye ars of teaching. Dr. Mitchell had established and endowed a scholarship in memo ry of his wife in 1951. With the approval of his daughter, the Benjamin Ernest Mitchell Chair of Mathematics was designated as a memorial to both Dr. and Mrs. Mitchell in 1962". (Millsap College Alumni News, Spring 1964).
