  • (V) William Phelps, son of Nathaniel Phelps, was born at Northampton, June 22, 1657, died January 1, 1745. He settled on the homestead at Northampton, and was admitted a freeman, May 30, 1690. He married, May 30, 1678, Abigail Stebbin, born September 24, 1660, died 1748, daughter of John Stebbins. Children: 1. Abigail, born August 3, 1679, married, August 3, 1697, Joseph Parsons. 2. Elizabeth, February 3, 1682, married Benjamin Knowlton. '3. William, April 16, 1684, married Thankful Edwards'. 4. Mary, Janurary 3, 1688, married Ebenezer Burt. 5. Nathaniel, October 5, 1690, married Lois __. 6. Deborah, May 17, 1694, married Jonathan Rust. 7. Ebenezer, October, 1697, mentioned below. 8. Joseph Austin, December 5, 1699, married Hannah __. 9.   • I. JAMES PHELPS was of Tewksbury, England; was b. ab. 1520; m. Joan __. II. WILLIAM PHELPS, son of preceding, b. in Tewksbury, England; was bap. there, Aug. 4, 1560; m. Dorothy __; d. ab. 1611, and Dorothy d. in 1613. III. WILLIAM PHELPS, Jr., son of preceding, sailed from Plymouth, England, Mar. 20, 1630, on the Mary and John. The immmigrants on this ship founded Dorchester, Mass. Mr. Phelps remained there five years; was one of the founders of Windsor, Conn., in 1635-6. He was bap. in Tewksbury Abby Church, England, Aug. 19, 1599. He m. in England to a woman unknown to us. He m. in Windsor, Conn., 1638, Mary Dorr. He d. in Windsor, July 14, 1672; his 2d w. d. there, Nov. 27, 1675 IV. NATHANIEL PHELPS, son of preceding, b. at Porlock, England, ab. 1627; m. in Windsor, Conn., Sept. 17, 1650 Mrs. Elizabeth Copley. He removed to Northampton, Mass., in 1656-7, where he d., May 27, 1702, ae. 75. He was a deacon of the church. V. WILLIAM PHELPS, son of the preceding, b. in Northampton, Mass., June 22, 1657; d. there, June 1, 1745; m., May 30, 1678, Abigail, dau. of John Stebbins. She d. at Northampton, December 1748, ae. 88. She was b. at Northampton, Sept. 24, 1660. He lived on the old homestead at Northampton. 'VI. WILLIAM PHELPS, Jr., son of preceding, b. at Northampton, April 1684; m., in 1706, Thankful Edwards. He lived and died at Northampton, and was one of the "Committee of Safety" in the Revolution'. VII. ELIAKIM PHELPS, son of the preceding, b. at Northampton, Jan. 17, 1709; settled at "Cold Spring", . . . .
