About Thekla Placzek

Thekla Placzek, born Eichengrun was born in Aug. 24, 1899 in Paderborn, Grmany. She had married Siegfried Placzek, and In 1923 the couple had made Alyia an resided in Kibbutz Cheftzibah. Following Absorbtion difficulties, the Placzek had emmigrated back to Chechoslovakia, and resided in Teplitz Schonau in the Sudetten region. Following the annexation of tha region to Nazi Germany, the Placzecks had moved to Prague. In 1941 they were caught by the Nazis and were deported to Therezienstadt Concentration camp. Before that, the Placzecks were able to send their children, Joseph and David, in the 'Kindertransport' to London. In October 1944 Thekla Placzek was transported to Auschwitz where she was murdered. The Placzek children, Joseph and david had survived the war in England. After the war they had returned temporarily to Czechoslovakia. Joseph became a fighter pilot, joined the Israeli Air Force , changed his name to Joe Alon, and had a military career, ending as a wing commander. in 1973, serving as an Aerial Attache in Washington D. C., he was murdered in circumstances that are not clear to this day. His brother David had emmigrated to Australia where he worked as a truck driver.
