Themba Vilakazi (1967 - 2021)
Brief overview:
Themba (54), a farmer from Mpumalanga, went missing on 25th March 2021 after leaving in his vehicle. His family reported him missing after they could no reach him. Themba had told them that he was going to the Standerton police station to meet someone who had called earlier, and apparently identified himself as a police officer. On Wednesday 12th May 2021, police made a breakthrough in the case and arrested two men, aged 32 and 33, in Standerton. Items allegedly belonging to Vilakazi were found in the possession of one of the men. On Tuesday 18th May, the other man apparently pointed out where Vilakazi's body was buried in a ditch in Vrede in the Free State.
The two men appeared in the Standerton Magistrate's Court on Thursday 20th May on a charge of murder.
"Maj. Gen. Mpumalanga acting police chief Thulani Phahla praised the police for their investigative work. "We believe the investigation will progress well and ensure that justice is done for the murdered farmer. We also believe that the arrest will send a strong message to farm murderers that we are on their trail."
His white Toyota pickup, with the registration number KTC 469 MP, is still missing.
