Theo (44), was found half-naked, in his parents' home, Ben and Ann van Niekerk, in Loerie Park, on 17th September 2006. A neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "His hands and feet were tied behind his back with a rope that also was wound around his neck and with which he apparently was strangled. " He was lying on his stomach on the floor and the top half of his face was "black and blue".

Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said Theo's white 1400 Nissan bakkie had been found abandoned in Willow Road, Pacaltsdorp.

  • Detectives arrested a 26-year-old male in connection with his murder. Captain Malcolm Pojie said the 26-year old man from Thembalethu, George, was found in possession of stolen electronic equipment, and was being held for questioning.
  • A search for Theo's Nissan 1400 bakkie led the police to his house. “There were no signs of forced entry, although the doors were locked,” said Pojie.
