About Theodore Marcoux St. Onge

Theodore St. Onge was baptised as Théodule Marcoux dit St. Onge at St-Damase, St-Hyacinthe, Québec, Canada, on 15 Aug 1836. He was born on 14 Aug 1836 to Joseph Marcoux dit St. Onge and Hélène Jourdain dit Lafrance. His godparents were Cyriaque Perron and Céleste Sorette. I was fortunate enough to be able to make a trip to St-Damase in September 2007 - what a beautiful place (see photo section for a picture of the church that stands there today - do not believe this is the original church building).

Theodore came to the United States and settled in Melrose in St. Louis County in about 1856 where his normal occupation was as a farmer. He was a veteran of the Civil War for the Union Army (Companies D and G, 2nd Regm't, Light Artillery). He enlisted 27 Feb 1862 and was discharged at Little Rock (Duvall's Bluff), Arkansas, on 27 Feb 1865.

Theodore St. Onge was married to Kunigunde Meid on 28 Jul 1867 in St. Louis County, Missouri, by Herman Steines, Justice of the Peace.

Theodore and Kunigunde (she was known also as Connie or Katherine, depending on the record) had seven children. I have been able to find/document all but one. Their last-born child was Herman St. Onge, born 29 Jul 1884 at Fox Creek, Missouri. Herman married Marie L. Orr (daughter of Walter R. Orr and Lorena Martha Eatherton) on 24 Aug 1910 at Clayton, St. Louis County, Missouri. By the 1920 census, Marie and Herman were divorced. The last mention I find of him was in the obituary of his last surviving sibling, Elizabeth (nee St. Onge) Kelpe, when she died on 14 Jul 1959.
