About Theresia Mary Landsberger
GEDCOM Note
NOTES In a letter written by her granddaughter in law, Doris Beissel:
Theresa Landsberger, who came to this country in 1873 at the age of 13. The story was that her father had been a burgermeister in Luxembourg, Germany in the 1860's. In our ignorance we thought that meant the city of Luxembourg, so we made inquires there & were told by an enraged Luxembourger that no German had ever been a burgermeister in Luxembourg. We understood his feelings when we recalled that they had been occupied by the Germans in two world wars. Since then we have found references that she came from Byron, Germany which I think means Bayern what we call Bavaria.
Ludwig (Louis) & Theresa Landsberger had 13 children, one died in infancy. Their 1st 3 children were born in New Trier, MN. From there they went to S. Dakota, Wi. (where George's father was born) & then to MI. Of course George never knew his grandmother because she died in 1901 in a tragic house fire along with 2 of the children, Mary aged 6 & George aged 4. George's father was 16 years old then.
About the Friermuth connection. This is as best as I can decipher at this point. Johann Beissel and Maria Anna Tietz had 2 sons, Bertram and Ludwig, that married 2 Landsberger sisters. Bertram married Fransica Landsberger and Ludwig married Theresa Mary Landsberger. Now what I believe is the connection is that Fransisca and Theresa Landsberger had a sister named Margaret who married George Friermuth. George Friermuth I believe was commonly referred to as "Doc" Friermuth. The Friermuth's from what I understand were notorious for selling illegal liquor (moonshine) during the days of prohibition. (I wonder a lot if it wasn't how George got the nickname "Doc" because he had the cure for everything!!! chuckle, chuckle)
