Thomas Astley, son and heir of Thomas, enfeoffed in the 22d of Henry VII. Will. Eton, &c. of this manor in trust, and married first,

  1. Anne, daughter of Edw. Boughton of Lawford, in Warwickshire, who bore sable, three crescents, or;—and had by her John, his son and heir;
  2. his 2d wife was Anne or Hellen, daughter of Robert Wode of East Barsham, Esq. and sister of Elizabeth, the wife of Sir James Boleyn of Blickling, by whom he had also a son, John, who was master of the Jewel-house.

She died in child-bed, and was buried at Blickling.

7, Thomas Astley, Esq. his son and heir, married the daughter of —— Lomner, of Mannington, in Norfolk, Esq. and had issue,

8, Thomas, who had three wives;

  • 1, Anne, daughter of Boughton, of Lawford, in Warwickshire, Esq. by whom he had one son, John, his son and heir, of whom hereafter ;
  • 2, Anne, daughter of Wood, sister to the wife of Sir James Bulleyn, Knt. by whom he had John, Richard, and Thomas; John Astley, Esq. eldest son by the second marriage, was master of the jeweloffice to Queen Elizabeth, and married, first, Catharine, daughter of Sir Philip Champernown, of Devonshire, Knt. by whom he had no issue; secondly*, Margaret, daughter of Thomas, Lord Grey, brother of Henry, Lord Grey, by whom he had Sir John, and three daughters; Margaret, wife of Anthony Neville, of Mottcrsey, iu Nottinghamshire, Esq ; Bridget, of Sir Norton Knatchbull, of Mersham, in Kent, Knt'; and Eleanor, of Thomas Knatchbull, Esq. brother of Sir Norton. Sir John Astley, of Maidstone, iuKent, Knt. only son of John, married Catharine, daughter of Anthony Bridges, Esq. brother to Edmund-Edward, Lord Chandos, by whom he had two sons, John, and Francis, both died S. P. whereupon the three sisters of Sir John were his coheirs.
  • The third wife to Thomas, before-mentioned, was Anne, daughter of Cruse, of Warwickshire, by whom 1 find no issue.

Anne, also called Helen, Wood was the daughter of John Wood of East Barsham, Norfolk (d.c.1496). She married Thomas Astley of Melton Constable, Norfolk (1469-October 19,1543) as his second wife in about 1505 and was the mother of his son John (c.1507-August 1,1596) and probably of Ann, Elizabeth, and Margaret Astley, who had been born by 1510.
