About Thomas Christian, I

Arrived in Virginia from England in 1687. The first known Christian to arrive was James Christian 16__. The ancestral home of Cedar Grove, a plantation on the Pamunkey River, Virginia, was by the home of Martha Curtis before she became Mrs. George Washington. some of the early members of the Christian family are buried next to George Washington's parents. One of the first representatives of the Christians was Thomas Christian who patented land in Charles City County, Virginia in 1687. I (Doug) am assuming that either James or thomas was Israel's father or Israel was a brother or relative. Also, Mrs. Hazel Hall (relationship unknown) supplied information regarding our family. She wrote that Robert and Mary Brown Christian had a daughter Letitia Tyler who was born near Richmond, Virginia in New Kent County, Virginia on 11-12-1790. Robert Christian may have been a brother to Anthony Christian II who was born in 1760. robert was a well-to-do planter, and Letitia was described as an aristocratic beauty. She became engaged to John Tyler when there were both 18 years old, but it was 5 years before they would marry. John Tyler later became president of the US. They had a child Elizabeth, one of 7 in 1842, when Tyler was president and Letitia died a few months later. (no evidence of the connection, if any, of our branch of the family.
