GARVEY THOMAS E. "RED" Of Mount Lebanon, at age 84, surrounded by his family, died peacefully at home on Friday, February 3, 2012. Husband of the late Mary Ann (Luttig); devoted father of William J. (Barbara) Garvey, Kelly A. (Scott) Sheets and Laurie L. Garvey; brother of Mary Lou Austin and the late Michael R. and William F. Garvey; proud and loving grandfather of Claire and Anne Garvey, William and Katherine Sheets; also survived by nieces and nephews. Born December 20, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Mr. Garvey was a graduate of North Catholic High School (1945), Duquesne University (1958) and went on to obtain his M. Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh (1961). He was a veteran of the US Army. He was a teacher and football coach at Saint Bernard School, South Catholic High School, Norwin High School and then went on to coach full time at the University of Pittsburgh from (1967-1969). Following that he became a Guidance Counselor at Moon Area Senior High School until his retirement in 1988. Additionally, he served as a Scout for the New York Jets, BLESTO Scouting Combine and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Friends will be welcomed at LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon MONDAY and TUESDAY 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Bernard Church Wednesday morning at 11:30. Entombment: Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
