About Thomas Godfrey
Thomas was born 3 Jan 1585/6 He was second son of Thomas Godfrey (d.1624) jurat of Lydd, Kent, being only son of his fathers second wife wife Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Michael Pix of Ashford, Kent; half-bro. of Richard II*.
Educated at Challock Grammar School 1594; St. John’s, Camb. 1599; Middle Temple 1603-6.
1608 He married firstly Margaret (d. 29 June 1611), daughter of William Lambarde of Westcombe, Kent. 5 May 1608 They had 2 sons.
1612 He married secondly Sarah, daughter of Thomas Iles, proctor of Hammersmith, Middlesex 28 May 1612. They had 9 sons and 4 daughters.
His seventh son was Sir Edmund Berry Godfrey, whose mysterious death in 1678 sparked off the hysteria of the Popish Plot
He died in 1664
