Thomas was born about 1550.

Thomas Gregson of "Shere Hall" (Sharrow Hall), Thurvaston, Derbyshire, made a will on 20 October 1595 naming his wife Alice, his son Henry, his son Thomas (left a house in Burton upon Trent), his son Francis, his son Richard and his daughters Mary and Martha, all under 21; making his brothers Henry Merry, John Gregson and Thomas Goddard guardians of his daughters; his son Lawrence Hill, his wife and their son Henry Hill; his wife Alice and son Richard were named exectors and his brothers Henry Merry, Thomas Goddard, John Gregson and Gregory Gregson overseers. The will was proved at London in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury by Thomas Browne notary public on behalf of Alice Gregson widow on 23 December 1595, reserving a power to Richard Gregson the other executor.[1]

He died on 18 December 1595.[2]

The Sutton on the Hill parish register records that Thomas Gregson yeoman was buried at London on 21 December 1595.[3]

Research Note

Henry Merry, gentleman of Sutton on the Hill, died in 1603, his inventory totalling £426 2s. 3d. His will does not survive.[4]

Origins

Elizabeth Gregson widow, late wife of Thomas Gregson of Over Thurvaston, made a will on 18 July 1584 naming her sons Gregory Gregson, Thomas Gregson, William Gregson, John Gregson and Thomas Goddard; her son Charles; Joan her son's wife; little John Gregson her nephew; Margery wife of her son William; her daughters Ellyn Harrison, Margery Goddard, Anne Borrowes and Agnes. The will was proved on 24 July 1584.
