"We have the Law lists, which go back to 1775.
1831- 1835: Thomas Burd Hockin first appears in 1831 at the address 20 Red Lion Square.
1836: he is now listed at 3 New Inn. 1836 is the last time he appears. I spot checked up to the mid-1840s just in case he re-appeared.
The Law Lists were a commercial publication at this time, so it’s possible he stopped paying for entries, or he ceased to practice for some other reason.
The only other solicitors with the name Hockin in this era are all in Cornwall, so it appears to be a Cornish name."

NB a listing in the Commercial &c. Directory for London at 3 New Inn under the headed 'Attorneys' -London, 1839 confirms he was carrying on practice as an Attorney at that address then [Search: Ancestry on line] Copy filed
