About Thomas Martin Hildinger
Thomas Martin was born in Germany in 1830. Twenty four years later he renounced his German citizenship ( a requirement of the German government before they would permit emigration) and sailed for the USA. He arrived in America aboard the Margeret Evans (most probably a sailing ship) and made his way to Pennsylvania. I supect that there was already a German immigrant population there. Within a year he married Caroline Bloom and moved to Hocking County, Ohio. He was a cabinetmaker and he plied his trade there and, later, in Indiana. He died prematurely in 1870 in a logging accident in Indiana when logs he gathered for his business rolled off the sled and crushed him.
