He was the son of John Martindale and Miriam Barratt.
Thomas and his first wife, Anna Marie Duvall Sudler, were married March 21, 1830. They had three daughters: Sarah Josephine Meily, Miriam Barratt Buckmaster and Dr. Elizabeth W. Cameron.
Thomas and his second wife, Margaret Ann Jarrell, were married November 17, 1841. They had four children; Thomas E., Stephen, William M., and John Martindale.
His profession was coach painter. Note: Thomas is on the left, Margaret is on the right.
