About Thomas Allen McClymont
Thomas Allan (Scotty) McClymont
Represented New Zealand in Rugby League and had a long and illustrious association with the NZ Rugby League as a Player, Captain, Coach, Selector covering 40 years, he was to make his debut in 1914 at the age of 22 playing at fullback in a sole test against the British at Auckland but an injury delayed that and then following the world war also played a part in his international career until NZ tour Australia in 1919.
He played all 3 home tests against the 1920 British team, toured Australia again in 1921 and was chosen as NZ captain for the home series against the 1924 Lions, unfortunately a broken arm in the first test hastened his retirement.
In 1928 Scotty coach the Kiwis to within one point of winning the home series against Great Britain, he remained a NZ selector while achieving considerable success with Richmond club teams in Auckland during the 1930's
Scotty was coach of the Kiwis on the non test tour to Australia in 1938 and again from 1947 to 1952.
In 2007 Scotty McClymont was inducted into the New Zealand Legends of League.
